SYNOPSIS

A struggling singer disguises herself as the undead to join the hottest zombie girl band in Zee Town, but when her lie sparks a citywide uprising, she must choose between the spotlight she stole and the movement she accidentally ignited.
THE STORY
The Zombie Bitches is a high-voltage, funny, emotionally sharp rock musical set in the future where zombies have carved out a segregated district called Zee Town. The undead are not monsters. They are citizens without rights, exploited for labor, entertainment, and politics.
At the center, a band: The Zombie Bitches - the loudest symbol Zee Town has. Their shows are part concert - part protest.

OUR HERO
And then comes Zara, a living girl with a killer voice and a desperate need to matter.
Zara’s broke, invisible, and angry. She has a ton of talent, but the lack of opportunity has prevented the world from hearing it. She is drowning in rejection and longs for the spotlight. Zara hears about auditions for the Zombie Bitches - a legendary band that refuses corporate control.
They do not let the living in... Ever.
So, Zara makes the choice that changes everything: she passes as the undead. It’s reckless. It’s immoral.
It’s also the first time the world pays attention to her… She gets in.

TONE
A fierce blend of camp, heart, and bite.
Think: Rock girl energy meets dystopian satire, but with real emotional consequences. Funny, yes. But the laughs land because the stakes are real.
WHY NOW?

Because the world is obsessed with identity, authenticity, and outrage. Because fame is a machine that chews people up. Because ‘performing’ who you are, has become a survival skill.
This show is about what happens when a lie becomes a brand, and then becomes a movement.

COMPARABLES
Rock musical crowd - Rent, Spring Awakening, American Idiot
Alt-comedy and horror-pop fans - Heathers, Beetlejuice
Younger theatregoers who want edge, humor, and anthems that feel like something you blast in the car after a breakup.
This is an Off-Broadway show built for word-of-mouth, TikTok moments, and a world fascinated by zombies – a popular genre that transcends economic and geographical boundaries.

THE MUSIC

A hooky, anthem-driven rock score with 80s edge and modern pop propulsion. The show should sound like a concert that accidentally becomes a revolution.
STAGING CONCEPTS

This must feel like a concert and a story at the same time. A flexible set that moves between back-alley clubs, broadcast stages, protest lines, and Zee Town streets.
A band-on-stage aesthetic is an advantage for Off-Broadway: fewer scene changes, more energy, lower load-in complexity, higher visceral impact.
This can be done with a smart design package and a tight ensemble.
